It’s my favorite platform for sharing, discovering, and buying music! Here’s why:
- More of the cost of music that you buy goes directly to the artist.
- Artists can customize their artist, album, and track pages with colors, images, and lyrics.
- Supporters and buyers can list their favorite tracks from an album
- The player/streaming part of the app works well. — Plus, you don’t have to listen to any ads.
- You can buy individual tracks or whole albums. — And it gives artists a choice to have some tracks be “Album Only” and even “Hidden Tracks”!
- Discovering new music is easier and more satisfying: You can search by genres, artists, names, and some names, archaic music descriptions (e.g., alien techno) that might only appear in the artists’ descriptions or comments about the music. You can also see who bought what music and browse the collections of people with tastes similar to yours. — I have found so much cool music like this. — You can also then follow those Listeners
- You can follow artists and labels and opt-in to receive email notifications when they post new music.
- The purchasing and buying platform, wishlists/crates, are easy for both artists and purchasers.
- Bandcamp has “Listening Parties”!
- Last but not least, I love the music! It’s significantly more underground, DIY, odd, and daring, but with many high-quality and well-known musicians and labels. I find such a great variety of all genres here.
- Bonus reason: Many artists make some or all of their music free (or ‘name your price’, including Yours Truly!
