Cosmosis 021: Drum & Bass and Jungle

This crate has been staring at me, waiting, growing patiently, like a huge black panther, waiting to pounce on me…But what that panther doesn’t know is that I created it, it follows my commands. And like a panther this genre can move smoothly and gracefully, and can also attack with supreme ferocity! Like much of the music of play, there are genres within genres, and so it takes a lot to explore. Expect a long set, with some lighter, ambient, smooth and soulful stuff, all the up to some techy, aggressive, sci-fi, neuro, and dark vibes and everything in between. It’s my favorite platform for sharing, discovering, and buying music! Here’s why:

  1. More of the cost of music that you buy goes directly to the artist.
  2. Artists can customize their artist, album, and track pages with colors, images, and lyrics.
  3. Supporters and buyers can list their favorite tracks from an album
  4. The player/streaming part of the app works well. — Plus, you don’t have to listen to any ads.
  5. You can buy individual tracks or whole albums. — And it gives artists a choice to have some tracks be “Album Only” and even “Hidden Tracks”!
  6. Discovering new music is easier and more satisfying: You can search by genres, artists, names, and some names, archaic music descriptions (e.g., alien techno) that might only appear in the artists’ descriptions or comments about the music. You can also see who bought what music and browse the collections of people with tastes similar to yours. — I have found so much cool music like this. — You can also then follow those Listeners
  7. You can follow artists and labels and opt-in to receive email notifications when they post new music.
  8. The purchasing and buying platform, wishlists/crates, are easy for both artists and purchasers.

  10. Last but not least, I love the music! It’s significantly more underground, DIY, odd, and daring, but with many high-quality and well-known musicians and labels. I find such a great variety of all genres here.

Cosmosis 014: A Tribute to 4 Persons with the Same Amount of Personality (Aug 2024)

Join me for a Cosmosis dedicated to my old band, “4 Persons with the Same Amount of Personality,” aka 4 Persons, aka 4P. 4 Persons, is an all-Yamaha crap-keys novelty band. Its four members include Hibs, J-Mo, Hoofs (aka Seanicus), and the 4th “person” is Yamaha DD-8. The 4P Universe is an amalgamation of fantasy, superhero, and sci-fi worlds.

4P’s music was made with all single-take recordings. — No re-records, very limited editing. What you hear is what was played the first and only time. We rotated who started songs, usually with a beat and 1-2 parts, and then the rest of the band added whatever they felt was appropriate on the fly. 4P’s unique workflow not only allowed for freedom, creativity, and spontaneity, but it also inadvertently created a natural expansion and equilibrium of universal personality. Each member had equal power and influence over the band, contributing to the band’s unique sound and style. This mythos of equality and creativity continues to influence and inspire global society, demonstrating the band’s significant impact on life itself.

4P recorded two full-length albums, plus bonus tracks, in about three months of work. The first album, “Blades and Badgers,” was recorded in Madison, WI. “In One Swift Motion,” the second album, was recorded with two members in Madison and the other two (Hoofs and DD-8) in Philadelphia, exchanging music files via email. The song order almost exclusively follows the order in which they were created.

Let’s look back into one of the revolutionary times in novelty music. You will learn about yourself, tales of other worlds and times, and magic and space, and explore human ideologies, psychologies, and philosophies. You, yourself, may experience infinite personality!
