BODY+MIND #6
TRITONE BAR
SUNDAY, AUGUST 1st
NO COVER!
21+
This month features a stacked line-up of acts pushing a wonderful spectrum of super creative, quirky, intelligent, and insightful electronic and dance music:
TLEILAXU – LIVE!
Unfoundsound Records, Multivitamins
Christopher Frank (a.k.a. dj crasta) was among the first djs in Philadelphia to play and promote experimental music and IDM in clubs, bars and warehouses. as the founder of Springlab Productions, he hosted events that started off as raves, and quickly evolved into something laid-back and sophisticated. In the late ’90s, he hosted Philly’s longest running trip-hop weekly event (called Grass) at Silk City along with Julian S. Process and Brad ‘Milkweed’ Davis. As a DJ as well as a live artist (a.k.a. Tleilaxu), he’s opened for Funkstorung, Amon Tobin, Mix Master Morris, Talvin Singh, Low, High Llamas, Morcheeba and others. Inspired by labels like Warp and Skam when these labels were fresh and new, he was producing heady, broken beat-ish IDM. after releasing compilation tracks on labels like Darla, tbtmo and Cloudwatch, Tleilaxu released his debut album, Gene Therapy, on Sean O’neal’s fuzzy box label in 2000. Musically, he has been on hiatus for the past several years to focus on opening and running his new café–Chapterhouse–located less than one block away from south street in Philadelphia.
WILLIAM FIELDS – LIVE!
Earsnake, Gears of Sound, Audiobulb, Hippocamp, Kikapu
William Fields is a self-taught electronic music composer and performer based out of Wilmington, DE. He has been writing music and experimenting with sound since 1993. His work covers a wide range stylistically, but is always warm and melodic.
William Fields was one of the runners up in the last Philly Laptop Battle. Come hear William do to sound what a gourmet pastry chef does to cupcake.
SQUAREWELL – DJ set
WVUD, 91.3fm
A purveyor of the best of what dubstep has to offer, Kyle Tush has been doing an experimental electronic music show on WVUD, 91.3fm for the last 7 years. He focuses on the fringes of the ever-evolving sounds of dubstep and UK bass music. You can catch Kyle’s radio show (theSquareWell) on Monday nights, 11pm-1am on 91.3fm or http://www.wvud.org.
SEANICUS – DJ support
EMC, B+M host
Seanicus became Seanicus in 1999 when he began creating what was dubbed “toy techno”; a hybrid between dance music and home made video game tunes. Sean moved to Philadelphia 3 years ago from Madison, Wi where he helped organize the Electronic Music Coalition events. Madison had just been hit hard with the “tesh” and “sexy time” (minimal techno craze) but his love for electronic music had always been in the melodic. Seanicus DJ sets can include everything from deep and spacey futuristic house to glitchy, minimal techno to party jams, pop remixes, live mash-ups, and beyond.

*This will probably be the best and THE LAST Body+Mind at the Tritone. It has served it’s purpose well, but it’s time to move onto a new venue. If you’ve been meaning to come to one of these events make this the one! I, for one, am really stoked about the line-up. Stay tuned for more info on this event as well as future Body+Mind.

I know I already mentioned this, but I just wanted to reiterate that this is the last B+M for a while. It might even be the last one ever!!
That said, I just want to encourage people to come out to this in support of local and organized live electronic music!
